Fraser Range was historically used as a Royal Naval gunnery range and research centre, before being deemed surplus to requirements and slowly falling into disrepair. Used to train the Royal Navy throughout the Cold War in the use of various armaments, the site’s 4.5in guns could often be heard across the city. The gunnery range closed in the 1980s, at which point it became an Admiralty Research Establishment concerned with Civil Marine radar. QinetiQ purchased the site in 2001, before subsequently closing the site permanently in 2006.
Building no.2 was an officer training facility originally known as St George’s - please use the tabs marked Ground Floor and First Floor to view 360-degree photographs of the internal areas.
